KARACHI: An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit northwestern and eastern parts of the country Aaj TV reported on Monday.
The aftershocks were felt in several parts of the country after tremors hit Punjab and Balochistan. However, no loss of life or damage to property was reported.
According to the meterological department mild tremors were felt in several parts of Punjab and Balochistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Swat and Mansehra,
The earthquake occurred at about 7:45AM (local time) and its epicenter was 290 kilometers from Chitral in Tajikistan.
People came out of their homes in fear and in some parts announcements were made in mosques, asking the people to evacuate their homes.
A major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 hit various parts of Pakistan on Tuesday with severe jolts felt in Karachi, Bahawalpur, Thatta, Sukkar, Shikarpur, Badin, Larkana, Mirpur Khas, Khairpur, Noshehro Feroz, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, Quetta, Naseerabad, Kharan, Lahore, Sargodha, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
According to a private news channel report, a heart patient woman died on experiencing the quake tremors in Quetta. Another woman was killed when a quake-shaken wall collapsed on her in Garhi Khairo.
A 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the country in October 2005, which killed more than 73,000 people, mainly in Kashmir and parts of the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
