ISLAMABAD: Eleven major generals of the Pakistan Army have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant general in a major high-command reshuffle, with former Director General Military Intelligence (DG MI) Major General Wajid Aziz among those elevated, according to sources.
Those promoted include Major General Umar Bashir, Major General Chaudhry Amir Ajmal, Major General Muhammad Ishaq Khattak, Major General Wajid Aziz, Major General Iftikhar Hassan Chaudhry, Major General Muhammad Naeem Akhtar, Major General Naseem Anwar, Major General Asad Cheema, Major General Imtiaz Babar and Major General Raja Muhammad Nadeem Ashraf.
The promotions Involve senior officers from the 86th and 87th Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Long Courses and form part of the latest transition in the Army’s three-star leadership.
According to a list circulating in military circles, around 30 major generals in the promotion zone were superseded in the latest round. The figure has not been officially announced by the military.
Major General Faisal Naseer was also not among the officers promoted to lieutenant general. He was recently transferred from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), where he served as DG(C), to the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA). The federal government appointed him National Coordinator of NACTA for a three-year term on secondment on September 4.
The Army had not publicly issued detailed reasons for individual promotion or supersession decisions at the time of filing this report.
