Faisal Kundi, Naqvi discuss governor’s rule, security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

  • Express concern that terrorists could cross security checkpoints during long march
Published Updated

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday discussed the possibility of imposing governor’s rule or an emergency in the province amid concerns over terrorism and the ongoing PTI long march.

According to a statement issued by the KP Governor’s House, the two leaders discussed the province’s law and order situation, political developments and issues arising from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s ongoing long march towards Islamabad during a meeting at the Governor’s House in Peshawar.

The meeting expressed concern that terrorists could potentially receive facilitation to cross security checkpoints during the march.

It also said the provincial government’s position and role regarding counterterrorism operations during negotiations were not in the interests of the people and the province.

The two dignitaries said that despite consensus on resolving issues, the provincial government had shown rigidity and repeated policy reversals.

The meeting also discussed allegations that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and provincial ministers were using helicopters and other government resources during the long march, describing the alleged use as a violation of Islamabad High Court decisions.

The Governor’s House said it was agreed that if President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif deemed it necessary to impose Governor’s Rule or an emergency to protect the province from terrorism and destruction, the Governor’s House would perform its constitutional role accordingly.

The two sides also discussed other matters of mutual interest and the prevailing political and security situation in the province.
