  • Settles at 277.77
Published Updated

The Pakistani rupee extended its marginal gains, appreciating 0.01% against the US dollar on Monday.

The local unit closed the day at 277.77, a gain of Re0.03 against the greenback.

On Friday, the Pakistani rupee settled at 277.80 against the dollar.

Meanwhile, the latest bouts of yen-buying hammered the dollar, with the euro rising to a 1-1/2-month high of $1.1559 early in Asia on Monday, while sterling hovered near a two-week top at $1.3476.

The dollar index was little changed at 99.71, having slid more than 1.5% last week.

In other currencies, the Australian dollar was up 0.18% at $0.7033, while the New Zealand dollar edged 0.05% higher to $0.5893.

Furthermore, oil prices tumbled more than $4 a barrel on Monday.

Brent crude futures slid $4.49, or 5.11%, to $83.44 by 0408 GMT while US West Texas Intermediate crude was at $79.77 a barrel, down $4.90, or 5.79%.

Both contracts jumped more than 20% last month after fighting between the US and Iran resumed and as attacks on several tankers around Oman heightened security concerns, deterring shippers from entering the Gulf to load oil.
