Conflict is a major source of food insecurity across the world, and Kashmir has become criminally trapped in the same situation, Munir Akram told UN Security Council.
The complete communications blackout have prevented Kashmiri farmers from reaching their farmlands, resulting in acute food shortages, the envoy further said.
He said progress in reform process can be made only through consultations, mutual accommodation and innovative compromise not by bullying and coercion.
He said it is another matter that the international community, including the Security Council, has been unable to find political solutions to several long-standing disputes such as Jammu and Kashmir.
UN peacekeeping has so far not been used to impose peace; but rather to help preserve peace and foster conditions for the political resolution of the underlying conflicts and disputes,” Akram said.
FO said that the reference is inconsistent with the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir as recognized by numerous United Nations Security Council resolutions and the international community.
