Saudi Arabia condemns Israeli strike on Gaza camp ‘in strongest terms’

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday roundly condemned a deadly Israeli bombing of Gaza’s largest refugee camp that killed dozens of people – including, Israel says, a Hamas commander.

Israel said it had targeted a Hamas tunnel complex under the densely populated Jabalia camp on Tuesday, killing local battalion commander Ibrahim Biari, who it believes was involved in the Hamas group’s October 7 attacks.

AFP witnessed at least 47 bodies being recovered from the scene.

Saudi Arabia denounced the strike “in the strongest terms possible”, decrying the “inhumane targeting” of the refugee camp “by the Israeli occupation forces”.

Senate passes resolution calling for immediate ceasefire of Israeli aggression in Gaza

The attack, Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said, had “caused the death and injury of a large number of innocent civilians”.

The statement is the latest sign the Israel-Hamas war has fractured efforts to normalise relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Before the Hamas group attacks, the United States had been close to brokering a deal that would have seen Saudi Arabia – home to Islam’s holiest sites – recognise Israel for the first time.

Supporters of the deal believe it could have transformed the Middle East, after decades in which Israel had very limited diplomatic, commercial and security ties with its neighbours.

Israel strikes crowded Gaza camp; says Hamas commander killed

In October, a source familiar with that process told AFP that Riyadh had decided to “pause discussion on possible normalisation”.

Saudi Arabia had previously warned Israel against any further ground operations in the Gaza Strip.

On October 7 Hamas launched a wave of cross-border raids into Israel killing an estimated 1,400 people, including many Israeli civilians.

Israel’s retaliatory strikes have killed more than 8,500 people, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry, stoking anger across the Arab world, including in Saudi Arabia.

Can the media or someone important ask the UN Security Council, What number of dead civilians and children is enough to stop Israel from this killing spree? Surely, the victims have the right to respond and take revenge on this genocide.

@KU, Muslim world is playing the role of spectators while the aggressor is killing indiscriminately all which include children, women and other civilians. The aggressor should be paid in the same kind as world powers must intervene and stop Israel from this act of genocide. The bombs which are being dropped on the innocent ppl will create thousands of bombs for Israel in coming times.

Why speak up only now? Why not raise voice on daily basis?

Saudi Arabia is a major player in the region and it's stance is perceived as that of a very minor player. The saying goes.....for evil to succeed, the good simply has to do nothing.

@Afzal , The thing is jewnited snakes of america control the elite classes of the muslim world which include politicians, generals, judges, businessmen, policy makers and media houses. I never liked the elite class at all because every single messed up thing here or there is created by them after taking orders from their master the jewnited snakes of america. The only thing which the muslim world can do is to put extreme pressure on the elite class of their countries to fight with israel but only if the ordinary man pushes the elite of their muslim countries otherwise if an elite stands for an elite it will always be the elite fighting with elite for political gain and nothing else. So if anyone can push the elite classes of the muslim world to kill jews and zionists then it will always be the ordinary people otherwise no one will.
