  • The US Agriculture Department reported totaled wheat export sales for the week ended April 22 at 461,300 tonnes. Analysts' forecasts ranged from 200,000 to 750,000 tonnes.
  • Corn export sales totaled 1.075 million tonnes in the week ended April 22, USDA said. That was in line with analysts' forecasts that ranged from 500,000 tonnes to 1.6 million tonnes.

EU cuts 2021/22 soft wheat crop forecast to 124.8mn tonnes

  • That would still be above 2020/21 production of common wheat, or soft wheat, of 117.2 million tonnes, the Commission's monthly supply and demand data showed.
  • The Commission also lowered its projection of soft wheat stocks at the end of 2021/22, to 11.4 million tonnes from 12.9 million last month, reflecting the reduced harvest forecast.

Sovecon lowers forecast for Russian 2020/21 wheat exports by 0.2mn tonnes

  • Russia doubled its wheat export tax to 50 euros ($59) per tonne last month in an attempt to curb high food price inflation amid the coronavirus pandemic. The tax was at 25 euro/tonne on Feb. 15-28.
  • The current low pace of wheat exports brought the estimate down, as did the fall in export prices in March, Sovecon, one of the leading agriculture consultancies in Moscow, said in a note.
