Israel and Hamas, announced the ceasefire earlier Thursday aimed to close 11 days of deadly fighting that pounded the Palestinian enclave and forced countless Israelis to seek shelter from rockets.
A statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the security cabinet had "unanimously accepted the recommendations to accept an Egyptian initiative for an unconditional... ceasefire."
The Israeli Air Force destroyed a building housing The Associated Press and Al Jazeera offices and claimed that Hamas used the building for a military intelligence office.
However, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he has not seen any information provided.
Some 3,100 rockets have also been fired by Palestinian militants toward Israel since conflict escalated on May 10 in the heaviest exchange of fire between the rivals in years, sparked by unrest in Jerusalem.
On Sunday, the Israeli military announced that it targeted the home of a top Hamas leader in Gaza.
Since fighting broke out earlier last week, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad group have acknowledged that 20 fighters have been killed in targeted Israeli strikes, while the Israeli military has said that this number is significantly higher.
An Israeli airstrike has destroyed a high-rise tower that housed The Associated Press, Al-Jazeera's offices in the Gaza Strip.
"Israel has given a “warning” that it will bomb the building that houses Al Jazeera offices and other international media channels in Gaza City in one hour...our colleagues have already evacuated," noted an Al-Jazeera reporter.
