Ford Motor, SK Innovation announce EV battery joint venture in N. America

The companies said they have signed a memorandum of understanding for the formation of the venture, called BlueOvalSK. Reuters on Wednesday reported plans for the joint venture.
That target would equal two jointly owned plants, the locations for which have not been identified, Ford North American Chief Operating Officer Lisa Drake said on a call with reporters.

Ford cuts production at two German plants due to chip shortage

"The situation on the global semiconductor market remains tense and, according to all estimates, will continue to be so in the coming months, resulting in supply bottlenecks," a spokeswoman for Ford said in a statement.
The carmaker said it planned to make up for lost production "as best we can" and would prioritise vehicles already ordered by customers.

Ford to offer hands-free driving in some car, truck models later this year

The automaker said its BlueCruise technology will be offered on its 2021 model year F-150 pickup trucks and the Mustang Mach-E electric crossovers equipped with its Co-Pilot360 driver assistance package.
Rivals General Motors Co and Tesla Inc also offer similar driving assistance technologies called the 'Super Cruise' and 'Autopilot', respectively.

GlobalFoundries, Bosch to develop radar chips for self-driving car features

Under the deal, Santa Clara, California-based GlobalFoundries said it will make high-frequency radar chips for Bosch at its Fab 1 facility in Dresden, Germany. Radar chips are widely used in vehicles for driver-assistance features such as emergency braking, lane-keeping and parking assistance.
Rather than source the chips from a third-party company to put inside a radar module, Bosch is working directly with the chip contract manufacturer to have its own design custom-made.
