imageISLAMABAD: The members of National Assembly belonging to Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) said on Tuesday that the privatization process of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) would be fully fair and transparent.

Addressing a press conference here, Daniyal Aziz said that the government was committed to privatize sick state owned entities (SOEs) to save over Rs 600 billion annually that were being wasted out on those entities.

He said during privatization process, the government would retain all the properties of PIA while the management would be handed over to the strategic partners to improve the overall working of the airlines so that it could turn into a profitable institution.

He asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to leave the politics of dual standards which was harming the country instead of PML-N.

He said on one hand PTI's provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) had implemented Essential Service Act (ESA) in hospitals, while on the other, its central leadership was criticizing the same done by federal government for PIA employees.

He said that privatization of PIA was in the national interest and it would yield positive results on the country's economy.

Talal Chaudhry said the government would save Rs 600 billion annually by privatizing the loss making SOEs and would spend it on development projects in health, education and other sectors for the socio-economic prosperity of the country.

He said the whole process for privatizing the PIA would be totally according to law and all stakeholders would be taken on board in this regard.

Replying to a question, Daniyal Aziz said the PTI had a plan to get political point scoring on the issue of PIA ignoring the fact that it was incurring huge loss to the national exchequer.
