imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Tuesday said the federal government had approved Rs 20 million for the uplift and rehabilitation of Kalash Valley.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the book 'Kalasha of Hindu Kush', he said the amount would be utilised in carrying development activities, rehabilitation of irrigation channels of Chitral and upgradation of Government Middle School Rumbur to the high level.

He said the federal government would make all possible measures for the welfare of Kalash community and protection of their rights, besides preserving and promoting their unique cultural heritage.

The book is co-authored by Maureen Lines and Isphandyar Bhandara, Member of the National Assembly.

The minister appreciated the dedication of the Maureen Lines in improving the welfare of the Kalash community, who has already been awarded 'Tamgha Imtiaz' by the Government of Pakistan for her extraordinary services in the preservation and promotion of Kalash culture.

Commending the services of Bhandara, he said he had written a number of articles on parliamentary procedures as well as a monograph on how members should conduct themselves in the Parliament.
