imageKARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon, Wednesday, directed the authorities to expedite anti encroachment campaign and to remove illegal parking in the provincial capital.

He issued these directions while presiding over a meeting, attended by Secretary local government, administrators and municipal commissioners of all districts, MD water board and other concerned officials.

He said that encroachments on government lands, amenity plots and roads were causing difficulties for general public and impeding the flow of traffic, must be removed throughout the province at the earliest and no negligence in this regard should be tolerated.

Memon also called upon traders and business community to cooperate in this regard and prevent themselves of encroaching residential or commercial areas besides main thoroughfares, roads and footpaths to assist in ensuring smooth flow of vehicular traffic and ease of pedestrians.

He, showing satisfaction over performance of anti encroachment units of Local government department, directed to further expedite the campaign for complete removal of encroachments from metropolis.

The Minister, simultaneously, directed MD Water Board to continue operation against illegal water hydrants, established in Karachi, and utilize all available resources for their removal and provision of potable water to citizens at their door step.

Showing displeasure on illegal parking areas and over charging, the minister directed concerned officials to take immediate action against illegal parking and cancel contracts of those charging more than designated parking fees.

Sharjeel also expressed his dissatisfaction over sanitation situation in Karachi and strictly directed Administrator Karachi and all district administrators and municipal commissioners to improve the situation.

Negligence in this regard would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against responsible officials concedrned where sanitary conditions were found unsatisfactory, he warned.

The Minister directed the city Administrator Karachi to start anti dengue spray campaign in the city by chalking out a comprehensive schedule for all districts and submit compliance report.
