pti---ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf would not join the long march announced by Tehrik-e-Minhajul Quran chief Dr. Tahirul Qadri as it wants holding of general elections on time as per the constitutional parameters.

Talking to APP, PTI spokesman Shafqat Mehmood said on Tuesday that the PTI did not support the long march by Dr. Qadri because there was a possibility that any such move might jeopardise the holding of general election. He said that the PTI always demanded timely and transparent elections.

He said that though Dr. Qadri's reform agenda was the same for which the PTI had been advocating since the past 16 years.

However, he said that the PTI was against the timing of the march as general elections were only two-three months away and the march might destabilise the democratic process.

He said that the PTI always raised its voice against the current political system but they could never think of violating the constitution.

He said the people of Pakistan only desired to elect a leadership that may steer them out of crises and resolve their issues.

To a question, he said the PTI had long been calling for electoral reforms and a petition in this regard was already being heard by the Supreme Court.

He said at this stage, any long march would be counter- productive and might cause delay in general elections, adding that instead of demonstrations, the political forces should evolve consensus for caretaker set up.
