imageThe sit-in being conducted by an alliance of religious parties have resulted in a traffic mess, across the city of Karachi as the blockage of Numaish Chowrangi have choked the city’s major arteries.

The situation has rendered Karachiites in the state of anguish, as citizens continue their struggles to find alternate routes. According to local media reports, The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, A D Khawaja yesterday, ordered DIG Traffic Karachi Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh that in case of traffic jams, direct alternate routes for vehicular traffic on urgent basis as well as ensure excessive deployment of traffic cops on busy roads so that smooth flow of traffic could be ensured.

For security measures, authorities on Wednesday have closed Red Zone where President’s office and residences of Sindh governor and chief minister are located. The Red Zone has been sealed with containers and barriers.

The protests have continued since Sunday, when several thousand protesters marched on Islamabad, clashing with security forces before setting up camp outside key government buildings along the capital's main Constitution Avenue.
