imageLAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench on Wednesday adjourned hearing of bail application filed by PPP leader Qasim Zia in a Rs 80 million scam after the National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) counsel sought time to file reply.

The bench comprising Justice Muhammad Tariq Abbasi and Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem heard the matter.

During the hearing, NAB's counsel submitted that Qasim Zia was involved in the scam and solid evidence was available against him. However, he requested the court to grant time for filing the detailed reply.

The bench accepted the request and adjourned the matter till September 7.

Qasim Zia has filed the application through Barrister Ali Zafar submitting that the NAB Punjab arrested him in connection with an eight-year-old dispute between Ali Usman Stock Brokerage and its investors.

"The dispute was civil in nature as it is alleged that Ali Usman Brokerage used public money for their own purpose and failed to return it", he added.

Qasim submitted that he remained sleeping partner of the company from 2006 to 2008 and left the company after breach of trust by Ali Usman.

He submitted that the NAB authorities did not have any evidence against him whereas no reference was also filed in the court.

He pleaded the court to grant benefit of the bail as he was no more required for investigations.

The NAB Punjab arrested Qasim Zia along with other directors of Ali Usman Brokerage for defrauding public in stock exchange.

More than 80 affectees filed their complaints with NAB against the accused.
