imageKARACHI: The government as well as the civil society has great responsibility to look after the welfare and well-being of deserving people in the society.

This was stated by Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui while presiding over a meeting of government departments to review the measures for financial assistance of needy people for provision of medical, educational and other basic amenities to them.

The meeting was attended among others by Director of the Social Welfare Department Nuzhat Fatima, senior officials of Zakat department, Baitul Maal and Benazir Bhutto programme beside the welfare organisations.

Commissioner Karachi said the departments working for the welfare of needy people should maintain transparency in providing support to the people and should ensure that only deserving people are benefited from the funds.

He also appreciated the role of welfare organisations working to safeguard the rights and welfare of the needy people to provide financial support and meet their needs for medical, education and other basic amenities.

He advised the organisations to help the youth and students on priority basis, to support them to get skills for training purposes and education so they could become employable in the future and earn a living for their families.
