imageKARACHI: Arrangements have been finalized for an impressive program to mark 68th Independence Day of the country on the premises of Quaid-e-Azam mausoleum on Thursday.

The program shall begin at 8 a.m. sharp during which flag will be hoisted by the Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad followed by laying of floral wreath on the grave of Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah by the Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

Besides the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Navy bands playing tunes some 2000 children, from different schools of Karachi will participate in the program and present different national songs.

The children will also pay tribute to the soldiers of the country realizing their responsibility to defend frontiers of the country and also protecting it against enemies within.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui sharing details of the program with APP on Wednesday said adequate and fool - proof security measures have been adopted for the occasion.

The mausoleum shall be freshly awashed on Wednesday evening with all plantation around it also given a fresh look, he said.

A change of guards by the cadets of Pakistan Naval Academy is also expected on the occasion.

Besides this main ceremony different private and public sector institutions have also arranged series of events to commemorate the occasion in a befitting yet sober manner, in view of the country's current engagement in its war against terrorists.

All educational institutions will remain partially open with students participating in programs including quiz contest, national song competition, tableus and so-forth.

Flag hoisting ceremony followed by get togethers have also been arranged by different organization for their employees.

"August 14 is the day when we need to contemplate all the more

struggle made by our ancestors for our independence and our responsibility to retain it in the truest spirit," said Siddiqui.
