imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Commerce Eng. Khurram Dastgir Monday said a total amount of US$ 18.460 million was earned from the export of livestock over the last three years.

Speaking during question-hour in the National Assembly, the minister said promoting livestock falls under the purview of the provincial governments after the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

As regards promotion of livestock exports, he added the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on a summary moved by Ministry of National Food Security and Research imposed ban on the export of live animals w.e.f October 1, 2013.

He said the ban was imposed to enhance export of value added products. Answering another question he added, Pakistan's exports to China and UAE had decline by 13.71 percent and 24.5 percent in the financial year 2015, respectively.

The minister said that China had abandoned its policy to store raw cotton and yarn that comprised major portion of Pakistan export basket.

China's policy shift had also affected international prices of yarn, he said, adding Pakistan's exports to UAE had declined due to decrease in the exports of petroleum products, chemicals, jewellary and rice.

Similarly, he said, South Africa had imposed anti-dumping duty on Pakistani cement companies, whereas, the demand from Afghanistan for cement had shifted to Tajikistan.

He said there various endogenous and exogenous reasons of imbalance of exports and imports of the country during the last three years.
