imageISLAMABAD: Spokesman of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Shahid Hussain Asad on Friday said that the government is committed to broaden the tax net for the economic revival and to enhance the economic growth in the country.

Talking to APP, he said that FBR launched an aggressive drive for broadening tax base and in this connection National Tax Number (NTN) has been issued to 3.5 millions tax payer.

He said that out of 3.5 millions taxpayers, only 10 percent have returned the tax files, which is very low ratio for halting the budget deficit in fiscal years 2014.

Shahid Hussain Asad said that FBR was aiming to issue the notices to those non-compliant persons, who have not returned their tax files", he added.

The FBR Spokesman said the government directed all Chief Commissioners to send Income Tax returns file notices to the people, who have National Tax Number (NTN) but they did not return their tax files.

He added that Chief Commissioners have instructions to ensure the 90 percent tax returns from non tax payers from all over the country to generate the revenue for economic growth of the country.

Replying to a question, he said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has announced the tax incentive package for non tax payers and they would be given special relaxations in tax returns.

Besides, amnesty scheme was also launched for potential taxpayers to declare their undisclosed assets at either zero or nominal rates with soft conditions.

Replying to another query, he said the tax payers who will file Rs.25000 tax per anum for past five years till February 28 would get special immunity from audit and default in coming years.

He hoped that the business community would be benefited from these facilities bestowed by the government and it will file tax returns for economic growth and stability of the country.
