Making a new use of artificial intelligence (AI) Google has revealed a new feature for its keyboard where it will suggest users GIFs to use.

Google is using AI to suggest relevant GIFs, emojis and stickers to insert in conversation when using the Google keyboard, Gboard, making conversations more interactive.

While typing, a new GIF icon will appear on top left corner of Gboard. When a user taps on it, they can pull up Google’s suggestion for the user. According to Google, this feature will help users pick up the right emoji, stickers or GIFs instead of looking for it in thousands of options.

For instance, if a user mentions ‘sleepy’, Google will automatically present them with relevant GIFs and stickers. Google clarified that in order to make sure the suggestion are private for the specific user and can take place as fast as possible, the feature is entirely processed on the user’s own device, rather than sending the data to a Google server.

The feature has already been rolled out for Android and the Gboard iOS app. However, for now the feature is limited to US users in English, but according to the tech firm, it will soon expand into more languages.

“We communicate in pictures more than ever before. Emoji, stickers, or GIFs often get your point across better than just words. Conversations would be so much more boring—and more misunderstood—without them. This makes it faster and easier to share your #feelings and your glowing personality with whoever you’re chatting with,” Google expressed.
