Industrialist Association Peshawar (IAP) has expressed its concern over disconnection of gas supply by SNGPL authorities to scores of industrial units of Peshawar, rendering thousands of labourers as jobless besides inflicting millions of rupees loss on industrialists.
"We are totally handicapped due to disconnection of gas supply to our units and cannot pay salaries to our employees, mostly daily wagers, as a result of which about 40,000 labourers have lost their earning and industrialists are facing huge losses running in millions of rupees on daily basis," said Malik Niaz, President IAP.
Talking to APP here, Malik Niaz said the SNGPL authorities had made agreement with industrialists that two days gas load shedding will be carried out in Hayatabad Industrial Estate on weekly basis in patron with CNG pumps. However, he continued, contrary to the agreement, the SNGPL officials have not only cut gas supply to scores of industrial units but even removed the regulators, resulting in complete halt to the production process.
Malik Niaz said at Hayatabad Industrial Estate majority of industries are of safety match production units which are export based industry and now the industrialists are finding it very difficult to deliver the orders in time. He said due to prevailing circumstances in NWFP where bomb explosions and deteriorating law and order situation has badly affected commercial activity, the industrialist and business community are facing great hardships to continue their business. If the prevailing practice of electricity and gas load shedding continued, it will become impossible for industrialists to keep their units functional.
Malik Niaz said IAP realises that due to rising chill in weather, SNGPL is facing difficulty in supplying gas to both commercial and domestic consumers, but it should adhere to its agreement to two days load shedding on weekly basis. Similarly, he added, industrialists also understand the problems being faced by our governments, both provincial and federal, and do not want to create any problem for the administration.
