Andre Agassi will bid for the 60th title of his storied career on Sunday at the 380,000-dollar Los Angeles Mercedes-Benz Cup when he faces a youngster who beat him in their only previous meeting. Top seed Agassi gave himself full marks after vaulting into the final with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Juan Ignacio Chela.
But the 35-year-old will square off against Luxembourg's Gilles Muller, who saved two match points and won the last 16 on the trot to upset second seed Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-1 in their semi-final.
Last August, Muller won the last three games to knock Agassi out of the semis in Washington, their only previous meeting.
Agassi couldn't contain his satisfaction after dominating Chela, ten years his junior, in a comprehensive effort lasting just 70 minutes.
Victory - sealed with a fifth ace - puts the eight time Grand Slam winner on pole position for a fourth LA title.
