Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was down 31.43 points, or 0.17%, at 18,352.84.
US crude and Brent crude prices rose around 2%, while Spot Gold gained 1.37%.

Shares of the company, which last year tapped markets for additional cash and furloughed employees, fell as much as 18% after it also said any final deal would be funded through existing cash.
Rival Countrywide in December agreed to Connells' sweetened buyout proposal after struggling for many years as Brexit and the health crisis added to pressure from a botched restructuring in 2015.

The approach follows similar moves this year in Italy at coffee producer Zanetti and packaging equipment firm IMA as investors take advantage of record low interest rates.
A drop in motorway traffic caused by the pandemic had driven ASTM shares down to Friday's close of around 20 euros from 25 euros a year ago, just before COVID-19 contagion hit Italy.

Alec Gores, Guggenheim-backed SPAC seeks to raise $750 million via IPO

Gores Guggenheim, co-sponsored by Gores Group LLC and Guggenheim, said it plans to sell 75 million units composed of shares and warrants, priced at $10 per unit on the Nasdaq Capital Market.
Another Gores-backed SPAC, Gores Holdings VI Inc, earlier this month agreed to take 3D camera maker Matterport Inc public for $2.9 billion.
