Farmers advised to cultivate sunflower instead of late wheat sowing
MULTAN: The agriculture department has advised the farmers to cultivate sunflower crop as it offers handsome return.
Sunflower is an important crop and farmers should cultivate it instead of late sowing of wheat, said Assistant Director Agriculture Naveed Asmat Kohloon, in a statement issued here on Monday.
Sunflower crop can help produce more edible oil locally, he said and added the government is also providing subsidy on this crop. Sunflower crop starts providing return within 100 to 130 days after its cultivation.
The country used to spend huge amount on import of oil and the burden on imports will also lessen following maximum cultivation of sunflower crop, he added.
He said the Punjab government has decided to arrange special training programme for officers regarding cultivation of sunflower crop.
