imageAir Conditioners are fast becoming a modern day necessity, especially in a country like Pakistan where temperatures are rising up with every passing year, due to climatic changes.

But the problem is that not every family could afford installing them, and if they do so the high electricity bills, wreaks havoc to the budgets of middle and lower middle strata. However, no worries as technology evolve bringing in ingenious solutions to this problem.

Welcome the Eco-Cooler: The Zero Electricity Cooler, as the name suggest works without the need of electricity, and I say no electricity meaning no power backups, charging batteries and so on. Sounds too good to be true isn’t it, well the good part is this air-conditioner is made up of waste materials, and you could make it too.

According to Geek, the Eco Cooler has been developed in Bangladesh, where the situation is similar if not worse than that of Pakistan with souring temperatures and 70 percent of its residents living without power.

imageNow coming to how to make it, all you need is to take a piece of board i.e. cut to the size of a window on your house. Next, drill holes in the board that are big enough to push a plastic neck through. Gather some old plastic bottles and cut the bottoms part off, then insert the neck of each bottle through the holes and secure them with the cap. Do this until the board is full.

Then, hang the board on the window and watch the temperature inside drop.

Now how does it works, as per reports the larger end of the bottle takes in the warm outside air and the change in pressure as it passes through the neck compresses and pumps cooler air into the house.

The change in temperature using an Eco-Cooler is at least 5 degrees Celsius, not much you may say but with no power and temperatures that can reach 45 degrees outside, it surely makes the difference.
