At least 14 people, including women and children, were killed while over 30 sustained injuries after three residential buildings collapsed here in Rizvia Society on Thursday.

Following the incident, rescue officials and police personnel arrived at the scene and launched an operation.

The victims were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities and treatment.

The ASH officials said eleven people, including 7 women and 3 children, lost their lives in the building collapse.

Some of the deceased were identified as Yahya, Haider, Ghulam Mustafa, Maryam, Hira, Zubida, Saira and Shehla while identification of other bodies could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.

Of the 30 people who sustained injuries some were given the first aid and discharged while others with multiple injuries were under treatment at the hospital.

The hospital had declared an emergency after the incident.

Police said of the three buildings, one was completely destroyed while portions of the others were razed to the ground. Meanwhile the authorities have declared the adjacent fourth building as unsafe.

Police said that construction work on the fifth floor in the four-storey building was underway due to which it caved in.

They feared some people might still be trapped under the rubble.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Governor Imran Ismail expressed grief over the loss of precious lives.

The CM has also summoned a report from the Commissioner of Karachi.

Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Mushtaq Mahar, directed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Arif Aslam Rao, to head the rescue operation in the area.
