The city police on Friday registered first information report (FIR) of a clash between two student groups during an event at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in which one student was killed and several others got injured on Thursday last.

Police said that Sabzi Mandi police station registered an FIR on the complaint of an injured student Fahad Khan Baber under Section 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempt to murder), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to Fahad Baber, the 'Mega Educational Expo' organized by Islami Jamiat Talaba was underway at the university's Activity Centre when some people affiliated with Islamic University Students Front (IUSF) and Saraiki Students Council attacked the event at around 8:40pm when speeches were being delivered. The attackers were equipped with firearms, glass bottles, iron rods, sharp tools, daggers, sticks and rocks.

As per the FIR, Baber said that IUSF people including Amal Khan, Azhar Lashari, Der Muhammad Lund, Abdul Minhas Raki, Muhammad Farooq, Sarfaraz Khan, Aamir Lashari, Suleman Wazir, Yousaf Achakzai, Hadiullah Marwat, Gul Zaman, Aamirullah Wazir, Kamil Mandokhail, Mustafiz, Kamran, Abdul Jalil Baloch, Ali Naqi Aamir, Hamad Shafiq, Akbar Khan and some other unknown people, who can be identified when they brought before him, attacked the event.

According the FIR, Muhammad Lund attacked and hit Ubaid Munawar's head with an iron rod and as a result he was seriously injured and fell on ground. Ali Naqvi attacked Murtaza Kiyani through a dagger and as a result his arm got injured. Aamir Lashari attacked him through a baton at his head, Suleman Wazir opened direct fire at Miraj Saleem, and Jalil Baloch opened fire at Usama Aamir which hit him in his leg.

Meanwhile, Abdul Minhas and Amal Khan overpowered Syed Tufail had dragged him to nearby building. Minhas overpowered Tufail and Khan hit huge stone at Tufail's head and as result Tulfail got seriously injured and fell on ground. The other accused including Sarfarz also opened straight fire at students and other unknown accused through glass bottles, stones and batons attacked students in the event which injured many other students including Ali Ghuri, Aqib Shah, Nauman Ahmed Zaman, Aaman Kakar, Maaz Saeed, Faisal Iqbal and others.

The injured students including Syed Tufail were shifted to hospital where Syed Tufail succumbed to his injuries. The accused after attacking the event resorted to indiscriminate firing and escaped from the scene. Khan said that the incident had caused a lot of fear in the university. People sought shelter in different areas in order to save their lives.

The complainant said that he and other injured students are witnesses to the incident at the university. He said that the suspects had also damaged government property. The applicant requested for taking legal action t against those behind the incident so that justice can be provided to the victims.

Police said that different police teams have so far arrested 16 students after a search operation at the university and hostels. Police said no weapons were recovered during the search operation. Police also produced 16 accused before the court and obtained their four-day physical remand.
