National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday attached complaints of suspicious transactions against Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, former minister Liaqat Ali Jatoi and MNA Nawaz Muhammad Yousuf Talpur and others with the ongoing investigations against them.
NAB official said that NAB Executive Board Meeting (EBM) meeting in the chair of NAB Chairman former Justice Javed Iqbal decided to link the complaint of suspicious transaction against Pakistan People Party (PPP) leader Durrani, Talpur, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jatoi and Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar with ongoing investigations against them.
He said that Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) of Ministry of Finance refers cases of suspicious transactions reports (STR) to NAB for investigations. He said that EBM also approved filing of three corruption references in the accountability courts and two inquires. The EBM has decided to file a corruption reference against Mehtab Khan Abbasi, former advisor to Prime Minister on Aviation, Ifran Allahi, former secretary Aviation Division, Musharraf Rasool, former Chairman Pakistan International Airline (PIA), Muhammad Ali Taba and others. The accused by misusing their authority appointed Musharraf Rasool as chairman PIA in violation of rules and regulations which incurred huge losses to the national exchequer, he said.
He said that the Bureau also authorised a reference against former minister Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan, former official of forest department Muhammad Zamrud Khan and others. The accused have allegedly awarded contract to seven contractors in violation of rules and regulations, allowing them cutting forests and not receiving any fine on abuses, which incurred a loss of Rs 45.73 million to the national exchequer, he said.
The NAB EBM also authorised filing of a corruption reference against Kamran Ali Qureshi, former Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Asad Munir, former Estate Member CDA, Khalid Mehmood, former Director Estate CDA, and others. They have been accused of restoring a plot situated at F-11 illegally by misusing their authority, inflicting heavy loss to the national kitty.
He said that Bureau also decided to initiate inquiries against Ghulam Muhammad, former Secretary Communication and Works Department, Balochistan, and officials of Provincial Highway Division, district Sanghar, Sindh, and others. The EBM approved to start investigations against Asghar Sheikh, former director general Larkana Development Authority, and others, he said.
