Expressing his surprise and dismay over the continued foot-dragging by the government on a vote recount demand of PTI, former President Asif Ali Zardari said that people had voted Nawaz Sharif to power, but they had not elected him to act like a 'Monarch' of the country. A vote recount should be carried out whether such constituencies are in Punjab or Sindh or elsewhere, spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar quoted the former President as saying in a statement on Tuesday.
The spokesperson said the former President made these remarks in view of deepening controversy over a vote recount in four constituencies in Lahore and wondered as to why the Prime Minister felt so nervous about it. Recount in even forty constituencies could be carried out if needed, he said. He said the PPP had accepted the poll results for the sake of democracy and democratic process but it could not abandon people who were undergoing "unimaginable" hardships.
