Iran president says Saudi ties with Israel would betray Palestinians

UNITED NATIONS: Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Wednesday accused regional rival Saudi Arabia of betraying the Palestinians by seeking to normalize relations with Israel.

“The initiation of a relationship between the Zionist regime and any country in the region, if it is with the aim to bring security for the Zionist regime, will certainly not do so,” Raisi told a news conference as he attended the UN General Assembly.

“We believe that a relationship between regional countries and the Zionist regime would be a stab in the back of the Palestinian people and of the resistance of the Palestinians,” he said.

Saudi Arabia and Israel have bonded in part over shared hostility to Iran’s clerical state, although Riyadh has moved to ease tensions with Tehran through talks brokered by China.

Saudi Arabia’s de factor ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has said that US-brokered talks are moving forward on normalization with Israel.

Has 75 years of boycotts helped the Palestinians? Ignoring Israel means you have no leverage. Instead of continuing with failed policies, maybe try a new approach whereby you can have more influence.

@KhanRA, similar excuses were given by UAE and others. Israel was building settlements in Palestinian lands without officially annexing it, which would be illegal anyway. Then it agreed not to annex the Palestinian Territories in exchange for diplomatic recognition. It continues to build settlements and kill Palestinians anyway. Is that what is called diplomatic engagement and clout.

@KhanRA, look at the influence that UAE now has. Israel continues to steal Palestinian lands and build settlements and keep killing the Palestinians.

Mr Raisi, you are so correct. Israel wants to steal Palestinian lands , build settlements and entrench the occupation, rendering the Palestinians stateless in their own land. And Israel wants a stamp of approval from neighboring countries and that is what these countries are doing.
