ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday emphasized the crucial role of universities in human resource development and said it ultimately contributes toward economic progress of the country.
He was talking to Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The President said the government was committed to promote the spread of higher education in the country.
He said that the present government had allocated Rs. 63.068 billion for the higher education sector in FY 2014-15, which was the highest ever.
Chairman (HEC) Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed also briefed the President about some of the issues faced by the universities.
