The Guards said the vessel was carrying 7,200 tonnes of "oil chemical products" and that the detained crew were from South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar.
The Cheonghae Unit, which includes South Korean special forces, arrived in the strait on Tuesday aboard the 5,000-ton destroyer Choi Yong, says South Korean Defense Ministry.
The tanker is being held at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port city.
On Tuesday, the MT Hankuk Chemi was seized by Iranian forces near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, detaining its crew of 20 people, with Iran stating that the ship had violated environmental rules.
This incident comes amid rising tensions over Iranian funds frozen in South Korean banks, due to U.S-imposed sanctions.
The South Korean pair said they expect combined sales in 2021 of 7.08 million vehicles, bouncing back after a year plagued by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the global economy.

The American troops stationed in South Korea on Tuesday received the first doses of COVID-19 vaccine. USFK includes around 28,500 American military personnel as well as thousands of other workers and family members.
The ministry said the cash handouts will be offered starting from Jan. 11, and expects that the latest measures could help around a total 5.8 million people.
Additionally, 19 asymptomatic cases were reported on Dec. 23, up from 14 the previous day. China does not include asymptomatic patients in its total confirmed case list.

Seoul and its surrounding areas have banned gatherings of more than four people from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3, and both restaurant owners and patrons may face up to 3 million won ($2,700) in fines for violation of the order.
