He said the current government also aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in the oil and gas sector by auctioning new E&P blocks and accelerating the exploration activities.
Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan has said the government is pursuing robust policies to revamp the petroleum and power sectors of the country.
Omar Ayub said the annual capacity payment to IPPs was Rs185 billion in 2013, Rs 468 billion in 2018 and Rs 860 billion in 2020, and it would reach Rs 1,455 billion in 2023.
The Minister said energy mix will include sixty percent energy through clean and green resources, ten percent each from nuclear and Thar coal resources.
Regarding the recent power breakdown, Omer Ayub said a committee has been constituted to investigate the matter and action will be taken against those found responsible.
The Prime Minister was apprised of the power sector agreements made by the previous governments and their negative effects on the economy and common man.
