imageLAHORE: A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court, challenging a sessions court order to register a case against Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and 19 others, over the Model Town incident of June 17.

The petition was filed by Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Pakistan Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, in their personal capacity through Azam Nazeer Tarar Advocate.

They submitted that an additional district and sessions judge had ordered Station House Officer (SHO) Faisal Town Police Station, Lahore, to register a case against the petitioners besides others, over the Model Town incident.

The petitioners submitted that they were serving as federal ministers and did not have any link with the matter. But the court ordered to register a case against them despite the fact that the complainant had not produced any evidence against them, they added.

They contended that the court had decided the matter without hearing their stance and appreciating case facts.

They pleaded the court to set aside the orders for registration of a case. They also requested the court to suspend the orders till the final decision of the petition.

The single bench, comprising Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa, will hear the petition on August 25.
