isra-HYDERABAD: As many as 328 graduates of Isra University were awarded academic degrees and diplomas at the university's 10th convocation here on Monday. Chancellor Isra University Prof. Dr. Asadullah Kazi presided the convocation ceremony.

 

The graduates included 109 Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), 48 Bachelors of Dental Surgery, 15 Bachelors of Nursing degree, 7 BS in Vision Sciences and 10 for post graduate degree in M.Phil in the subjects of Anatomy, Physiology, Hematology Histopathology and Bio-Chemistry in Basic Medical Sciences and General Surgery. 6 diplomas in Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynecology were also conferred.

 

In the domain of social sciences, 102 students received their degrees for the Bachelors and 30 for the Masters degree in the programmes including Business Administration, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electronics, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering and Computer Science.

 

The Chancellor congratulated the students on completing their higher education from the university. He observed that the university had emerged as a towering institute of higher education in the country over a short period of time.

 

"It was in February 2004 when we held our first convocation. During this course of time we succeded in establishing the name of Isra Islamic Foundation in the field of higher education and opened new campuses in Karachi and Islamabad," he said.

 

Dr Qazi also congratulated the Vice Chancellor Dr Ghulam Qadir Qazi saying that his devotion and efforts had played an important and significant role in achieving this rapid and sky rocketing development.

 

The VC while speaking on the occasion said that holding of the academic convocations falls within the purview of academic traditions of a university.

 

The main purpose of such celebrations is to confer degrees on the students, who have successfully completed their studies and at the same time, honor those who have performed meritoriously, and decorate them with gold and silver medals, he added.

 

He impressed upon the graduating students to contribute towards the development of society.

 

"At this auspicious occasion, you must also remember that all those who have supported you morally, emotionally and spiritually also deserve your gratitude and thankfulness.

 

It is a moment of pride for you, as much as it is for your teachers who guided you through out your studies at this University," he said in his remarks.

 

Earlier, the Chancellor awarded gold and silver medals to the meritorious graduates for securing top positions in their respective disciplines, faculties and departments.

 

The MBBS graduate Vinita Moorpani received a gold and a silver medal in the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences and Clinical Sciences, respectively. Neelam Memon, a graduate of BDS program, was also awarded a gold and a silver medal in the Faculty of Dentistry and Allied and the Basic and Clinical Dental Sciences, respectively.

 

The BS Electronics graduate Muhammad Nabeel Khan and Maha Afaq Khan BBA program both received gold and silver medals.

 

The silver medal recipients included Vishal Zainab of MBBS program, Aneeba Soomro of BS Computer Science, Aijaz Ali Chachar of BS Software Engineering, Tania of BS Nursing program and Muhammad Siddique a graduate of BS Vision Sciences . An honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy was also conferred on Syed Sibit-ul-Hasnain, the president of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), in recognition of his commendable services in the field of medical education.
