PESHAWAR: Chairman Standing Committee Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Energy Resources, Badshah Saleh has expressed the hope that construction of power houses by using Chitral waters could help overcome current energy crises on national level. The Chitral, he said has the potential to generate 15000 MW electricity.
He was presiding over the Standing Committee meeting on energy resources at Governor Cottage Chitral the other day. The members of the committee prior to the meeting conducted detailed visits of potential sites for construction of power houses.
The meeting was attended by members of the committee including Anwar Khan, Salim Khan, Ghlam Muhammad, Aurangzeb Khan, Imtiaz Shagai, political figures of the area and district officers.
Director Small Hydro Development Organization, Zahid Akhtar Sabri, Project Director Lawi, Bashir Ahmed, Resident Engineer Reeshan, Jawad Haider and Additional Secretary, Usman Yaqoob were also present on the occasion.
The meeting was told that construction of power houses in different areas of Shandoo was underway with full pace which on completion would help minimize the intensity of power issue.
Among the under construction power houses, Gehrit Swiner Power House has the capacity to generate 340 MW electricity, Koragh Preet with the capacity of 223 MW, Shashghani 140 MW, Laspur Miragram 133 MW, Shagosin 132 MW, Lawi 69 MW, Mojigram Shaghoor 52, Istaroo Booni 52 MW and Arkarigol with capacity of generating 24 MW electricity. It was told to the meeting that soon work will get start on Lawi Power House with an estimated cost of Rs 12 billion.
The District Coordination Officer, Rehmat Ullah Wazir informed that a Wapda power house at Singur will soon be handed over to Shaido that has the capacity of generating 600 KV electricity.
He supported the statement of Badshah Saleh that potential of Chitral to generate 15000 MW electricity could not only help overcome the energy crises in the country but we could also offer it to neighboring countries and earn sufficient foreign exchange.
He said sufficient electricity in the country will be helpful in minimizing impact on deforestation.
Later, members of the Standing Committee visited the site of Shishi Power House and inspected site for Lawi Power House. Project Director, Bashir Ahmed told the members that Shishi Power House would generate 1.875 MW electricity enough for whole Drosh area.
MPA from Upper Dir, Haji Anwar Khan said that provincial government has 30 billion rupees under the head of power generation projects and this amount will be utilized in a proper manner to overcome energy crises.
