Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has slammed Pakistani universities calling them ‘silent spectators’ in times when the world and Pakistan are fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Where are Pakistani universities?” questioned the federal minister on his twitter handle. Chaudhry said that everywhere in the world universities are providing guidelines to the governments through leading research and policy papers, unfortunately, however, that has not been the case in the country.
“Why Pakistani universities are silent spectators?” he added and urged them to up the game. “Vice-chancellors must initiate research up the game guys,” said Chaudhry.

Universities and research institutes around the world are conducting research to provide the cure for the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has affected over half a million population in the world and has claimed over 27,000 lives.
In Pakistan alone, the mysterious virus has affected over 1,300 persons and has claimed the lives of 11 persons. However, the country despite boasting a number of universities and research centers is looking at western institutes for a breakthrough rather than developing its own.
