The United States (US) Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross will be visiting Pakistan on February 26 (tomorrow) for a few hours and will discuss issues of mutual interest, well-informed sources told Business Recorder.

Ross is accompanying President Donald Trump on his visit to India, from where he would come to Pakistan for a few hours. He will hold meetings with Prime Minister, Imran Khan and three unelected Advisers, i.e, Adviser on Finance and Revenue, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Special Assistant on Petroleum, Nadeem Babar and Adviser on Commerce and Industries and Production and Investment, Abdul Razak Dawood.

The sources said, Secretary Ross will discuss issues related to American companies in different sectors as the responsibility of Secretary Commerce is to promote business of American companies. The issues related to Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and other trade related issues are in the domain of USTR.

An inter-ministerial meeting, sources said, has finalised its recommendations on the pending issues to be discussed with the visiting Commerce Secretary.

The US is also accusing Pakistan's Federal of Board of Revenue (FBR) of using "pirated" version of its software, urging Pakistan to refrain from engaging in such a practice.

This issue was raised by the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells during her recent visit to Pakistan and is expected to be raised by the Commerce Secretary.

The FBR was using the pirated version of VMware illegally, and the US is urging Pakistan to purchase the soft ware.VMware, Inc. is a publicly traded software company listed on the NYSE under stock ticker VMW. Dell Technologies is a majority share holder. VMware provides cloud computing and virtualization software and services. VMware's desktop software runs on Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS, while its enterprise software hyper visor is for servers.
