Kuwait celebrated on Monday its national day, marking the anniversary of its 59th Independence Day and its Liberation Day at a local hotel.
The National Day commemorates the creation of Kuwait as a nation in 1961, while Liberation Day marks the end of the Iraqi occupation in 1991 during the Gulf War.
Minister for Privatisation Mohammadmian Somroo was the chief guest. Other distinguish guests were Raja Zafural Haq and ambassadors of Muslim and European Countries.
A large number of Pakistan's senior officials, foreign diplomats, politicians, business figures and senior journalists attended the ceremony and congratulated Kuwait on the auspicious occasion.
The formal programme inaugurated with the national anthems of two brotherly countries. On the occasion a cake was also cut.
Since independence, Kuwait adopted balanced national and foreign policies aimed at maintaining the wellbeing of its people and bolstering ties of cooperation with its regional neighbours.
Pakistan and Kuwait cooperate closely in fields of trade, defence and antiterrorism efforts. Pakistani foreign workers in Kuwait send home a sizeable amount of remittances. Kuwait has assisted Pakistan in natural disasters, such as the 2005 earthquake and the 2010 floods.
Kuwait is a small oil-rich country, with about 4.1 million inhabitants, of whom 1.2 million Kuwaitis and 2.8 million expatriates, including over 1 million from the sub-continent. There are about 120,000 Pakistanis working in Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti Dinar is among the most highly-valued currency in the world. Ninety-four percent of the country's export earnings come from oil, but the country continues its efforts to diversify its economy.
