LAHORE: Former test bowler, Sarfraz Nawaz has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board that batsman Mohammad Hafeez be appointed as the captain of national T-20 team and the present skipper, Misbah ul Haq be given the task to lead the side in one-day and test matches.
" It is the right time to groom a captain for T-20 and I think Hafeez is the right choice and in my opinion Misbah ul Haq's leadership be curtailed to one day and test matches ",he told reporters here on Tuesday at Gadaffi stadium.
Sarfraz services have been acquired to supervise a camp of fourteen fast bowlers to identify future prospects for Pakistan national team.
He said it is imperative to have a young captain for T-20 cricket which requires fresh legs and bold approach to tackle the fire and aggression of opponents.
" Besides Hafeez be appointed as the vice captain of one day and test teams because it is the right way to enhance his confidence and to prepare him for leadership ",he said adding " Change always takes place and if it is carries out at right time it helps in building a team and a captain ",.
To a question,he said ,all rounder Shahid Afridi is not in the run of captaincy as the player has announced earlier that he is not interested to lead the side.
" Afridi should concentrate on improving his performance and it will be better if he confines himself to T-20 cricket only ",he suggested.
The former test cricketer said the fast bowlers camp has been established to give first hand information regarding the available talent to Pakistan team's foreign coach, Dave Whatmore and the selection committee headed by Ibqal Qasim.
" I want to serve Pakistan cricket and that is why I am imparting training to these bowlers and I think it is a very productive effort which will serve Pakistan cricket in years to come ",said Sarfraz Nawaz.
He rejected that questioner that Whatmore and chief selector Iqbal Qasim have developed differences on selection of the team. " I think both of them enjoy exemplary relations and they are working for a collective cause of Pakistan cricket ".
Sarfraz Nawaz said convicted Pakistani cricketers in spot fixing case who have completed their sentence in the jail should not be given any role in cricket in future and investigation should be launched against them in pakistan to curb the menace of spot fixing.
" They have brought bad name for the country and they should be kept away from cricket in the larger interest of Pakistan cricket in future",he said.
