A new modern dry port is being established in Pirpai district Nowshera to facilitate business community and boost trade activities in the region that will be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan on January 8, 2020 (Wednesday) next during a ceremony.

A press release issued here on Sunday stated that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has formally notified the establishment of the new state of the art Azakhel Dry-port in Pirpai, district Nowshera. The release said Prime Minister Imran Khan will formally inaugurate the Azakhel Dry-port on January 8, 2020 (Wednesday) next during a ceremony.

In this connection, senior officials including chief collector North Dr Asif Jah and Collector Appraisement Peshawar, Ihsan Ali Shah and others visited the site of the new dry port.

"Trade between Kabul and Islamabad will see a major boost with the completion of a dry port in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province", said Shahid Hussain, Acting President Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry while talking to this scribe here. He added that it was long-standing demand of business community for early completion of the new dry port in Nowshera, which is going to be fulfilled by incumbent government. "We highly appreciate this step, because it would ease difficulties of exporters and importers as well as gain impetus to trade with neighboring countries from here, Shahid said.

SCCI acting chief said the new dry port would improve trade prospects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and also promote trade with Afghanistan and other regional countries. He said the government initiative will provide facilities to business community in exports and imports. Shahid Hussain said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was bestowed with natural resources and the largest number of the industries of marble, gems, handicrafts, furniture, honey, herbs, carpet and matches are in the province and facilities were provided in the existing dry port then these goods will be exported from it. Shahid called for increasing the trade volume including bilateral trade relations with Afghanistan and Central Asian Republic Countries.

It is pertinent mention here that Peshawar Railways division had provided over 60 acres of land for the setting the dry port near Pirpai railways station in Nowshera.
