Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has termed alleged corruption in the Department International Development (DFID) Fund by former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif baseless, saying that news was planted by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government. Addressing a press conference in response to news carried by the newspaper, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that planning to plant the news 'in Daily Mail' was carried out at Banni Gala. Responding to a question, she said that PML-N has decided to sue the newspaper.
She further said that Shahbaz Sharif was in exile and a military dictator's government was in place and the 'News' quoted the period of 2005-2012 while Shahbaz Sharif became Chief Minister in 2008 and Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) was under the federal government led by Pakistan People's Party.
She said that Shahzad Akbar who is heading Asset Recovery Unit had access to all the record of the then Punjab and federal governments but after he was unable to found any corruption, against Shahbaz Sharif and got an international liar newspaper to get the news planted, Aurangzeb added.
"The habitual liar government of PTI planted the news through a habitual liar newspaper", said Aurangzeb while adding that DFID was providing funds for small health and education projects and funds were released on completion of task. Marriyum Aurangzeb added that DFID increased funding in endowment fund of the Punjab government when Shahbaz Sharif was in power primary because transparency and over three to four hundred thousands children were provided scholarships. The then provincial government also launched voucher scheme and 2.5 to 5 million school going children are getting benefit from it, she continued.
She said that with equal funding was also made by the DFID and the Punjab government to establish Punjab vocational training company to provide skill training to the youth which also reflected trust of the UK government agency DFIF on transparency of the then provincial government.
"I am addressing to Shahzad Akbar and selected prime minister not to put the country's credibility at stake for their dislike against former prime minister (Nawaz Sharif) and his family", added Marriyum Aurangzeb. She said the government wanted to deflect the attention of country wide strike by the traders on Saturday by planting fake news as suffering of the people have increased during the ten months of the government.
She said that DFID head Joanna Reid and transparency international had endorsed the efficiency and transparency of the Shahbaz Sharif government. DFFID which was providing funds in education and health, but increased funding across the country due to transparency and efficiency of Shahbaz Sharif as the chief minister Punjab.
