The Accountability Court hearing the fake bank accounts case Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Younus Kudwavi, director M/s Parthenon and close aid of former President Asif Ali Zardari, for not appearing before the court in a corruption reference filed against him and others by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir while hearing the reference issued the non-bailable arrest warrants over Kudwavi's continuous absence from the court and ordered NAB to ensure presence of all the accused on the next hearing. The NAB prosecutor told the court that the accused have allegedly allotted plots earmarked for welfare purposes, library and temples illegally, which incurred huge loss to the national exchequer.
According to the reference, solid evidence against the accused persons is available with the NAB so the court should punish them under the NAB Ordinance 1999. The NAB has nominated eight accused in the reference and alleged that nominated accused persons be tried in the court for buying properties in Karachi through the fake bank accounts. The suspects nominated in the reference include former Administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Mohammad Hussain Syed, and former KMC commissioners Matanat Ali Khan and Samiuddin Siddique.
Others nominated in the reference include Additional Director KDA Wing KMC, Syed Khalid Zafar Hashmi, former Director KDA Wing KMC Najamuz Zaman, assistant directors of KDA Wing KMC, Abdul Rasheed and Abdul Ghani, and Younus Kudwavi. The judge during the hearing asked the NAB official to provide copies of reference to all the accused persons on the next hearing.
