Peshawar District Cricket Association (PDCA) has expressed resentment over digging up pitch of Peshawar Gymkhana Cricket ground by town-I administration and demanded the Gymkhana ground should be handed over to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to provide better facilities to players and visitors.
Speaking a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, the Association president Asghar Ali Khan said that last night, the town-I administration had dug up pitch of gymkhana, the decade old playground, meant to conduct a tennis tournament at the venue
Flanked by the PDCA General Secretary Syed Haneef Shah, Zakir Khan, Malik Faisal, Asif Nadeen and others, Mr Asghar said that the town-I administration didn't take the cricket association and local cricket boards into confidence about organizing the tennis tournament and digging up of Gymkhana ground pitch.
Furthermore, he said the Gymkhana ground is converted to ruins due to intervention of district government, especially town-I administration. He added that there was no facility for sportsmen as well as visitors in the ground, which is needed to pay attention by authorities concerned. On the other hand, he appreciated that the town-I administration for its plan to spend Rs9million on refurbishment and beautification of Peshawar Gymkhana Ground, but it should consult with the Peshawar District Cricket Association before digging up of pitch. He vowed that they will continue fight till acceptance of their genuine demand.
Asghar Khan demanded the restoration of the ground pitch and hand over the Gymkhan Cricket Ground to Pakistan Cricket Board to provide facilities for players and other people in the ground. He urged the Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan and Director General Sports Junaid Khan and other relevant senior government officials to safe district cricket from disastrous and immediate order to restore the Gymkhana pitch and hand over the ground to PCB immediately.
He warned that if their demand was not accepted, they would conduct practice session on route of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Peshawar and would also stage a peaceful protest demonstration against unjust attitude of the Town-I administration.
