The 10 Union Councils of the city have been selected to make them waste free as model in the second phase of Clean & Green Punjab Programme under pilot project and upgradation of sanitation system. This pilot projects have been launched here on Wednesday and a awareness seminar was held under the joint collaboration of Faisalabad Waste Management Company and the local government & community development department at Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Auditorium.
Chairman PHA/MPA Latif Nazar was the chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Sardar Saifullah Dogar presided over the seminar. ADC(HQ) Qaiser Abbas Rind, MD FWMC Col Emad Iqbal Gill, DDLG Ch Abdul Hameed, Senior Manager Operation Ejaz Bandesha, Director Arts Council Soofia Bedar, AOC Riaz Hussain Anjum and other officers were also present on the occasion while students' representatives of NGOs and a large number of citizens belonging to different walks of life attended the seminar.
Addressing the Seminar, Deputy Commissioner Sardar Saifullah Dogar said that Punjab government's Clean & Green Punjab 2nd phase would also be made successful and all out resources would be utilized for the cleanliness drive in targeted Union Councils of city, however, cooperation and sensitization of citizens is vital to achieve the desire results in this regard. He said that Clean & Green drive of Punjab government was very important to bring the pleasant change in environment. He said that cleanliness is part of our faith and we should play a role to maintain the surroundings neat and clean. He urged upon bringing a change in social attitude and said every citizen should take part in clean & green Punjab programme and avoiding from throwing the solid waste on roads, parks, streets, drains and other public places. The Deputy Commissioner asked the youth to extend cooperation for maintaining the neat and clean environment so as the other citizen should replicated the same model. Chairman PHA said that the Clean & Green Punjab Programme has been implemented in the district with letter and spirit under the revolutionary vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and people would see a real change regarding cleanliness and sanitation. He said that the second phase of Clean & Green Programme would be also made successful with the cooperation of community. He appreciated the step of holding awareness seminar regarding Clean & Green drive and stressed upon the concerned departments for accelerating their efforts for showing best performance in phase 2 as well. The MD FWMC said that under pilot the project, Union Councils No.1, 2, 3, 20, 21, 22, 28, 29, 30 and 157 would be made clean. He expressed his determination that the challenge of Clean & Green Punjab Phase II would also be met by utilizing all resources.
He said that the maximum waste was being lifted from the city on scientific lines under the available resources and additional 5,000 metric tons waste has been lifted during clean and green Punjab drive since 1st October 2018.
Later, an awareness walk was also held to sensitize the citizens regarding Clean & Green Punjab. Deputy Commissioner Sardar Saifullah Dogar and Chairman PHA Latif Nazar led the walk which started from Arts Council and culminated at Commissioner Office after passing through the different roads. The participants of the walk were carrying banners and placards inscribed with the slogans regarding keeping the environment neat and clean.
