Hafeez dismisses South Africa's fear behind Test retirement

Pakistan's senior cricket all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez, has said that he is satisfied with the timing of his retirement from Test cricket, as he wants to concentrate on limited-overs cricket especially on the upcoming 50-overs World Cup.

“I want to completely focus on the limited over cricket, especially for the upcoming cricket World Cup, as I wanted to be ready for the event. It was a difficult decision however; I realized that this is the best time for me to part ways from the Test cricket.”

The all-rounder who was lately undergoing a lean patch in red-ball cricket dismissed the views that he called off from Tests as he didn’t want to face South Africa, in the upcoming Test series coming later in December.

“Pakistan Test cricket doesn’t end after the tour of South Africa, and I despite being 38 years old can maintain my game for the next 4-5 years, then I could have carried on. However, I took this decision in the better interest of Pakistan cricket and am content with it,” said Hafeez, while talking to local media.

Just days ago, Hafeez announced to retire from Test cricket after the end of Test series against New Zealand at UAE.

“I’m announcing my retirement from Test cricket and I’m really happy and proud to do that because I feel I really worked hard in my 15 years of my career. Thanks to Pakistan cricket for being with me at every step of my career,” said Hafeez.
