Residential areas of Capital: government asked to identify media houses, public offices
The Supreme Court on Monday asked the federation to identify media houses and government offices in residential areas after Capital Development Authority (CDA) allegedly failed to take action against non-confirming usage of residential areas in the various sectors of Islamabad while overriding the apex court repeated directives in the issue.
A two-member judge bench of Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh and Justice Faisal Arab resumed the hearing of a private company's bridge factor plea filed against Islamabad High Court (IHC) verdict on commercial usage of residential areas in various sectors of Islamabad.
Showing surprise during the course of proceedings, Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh observed that under the pretext of larger interests of public some by-laws have been made against the public interests.
Appearing on behalf of civil society, Advocate Aslam Khaki requested the court to issue directives to the CDA to relax its bylaws by allowing primary school operation in residential areas of the metropolis to which the bench plainly said the court cannot force anybody for legislation. Khaki further requested to issue order to the CDA to remove concrete blocks from the adjacent area of Federal Investigation Agency office which he termed was creating unnecessary blockage of public road.
The bench said that the court can issue order for removal of the barricade in case Khaki ensured the court for the FIA building' security however, Khaki said he is not in position to provide security details in personal capacity to the FIA. Seeking a report from the CDA regarding the current status of primary schools building in Islamabad, the bench asked the Additional Attorney General for Pakistan Chaudhry Amir Rehman to furnish a compressive report about list of media houses and government offices in Islamabad. Later, hearing of the case was adjourned for an indefinite period.
