Muslims celebrated Eidul Azha with traditional fervour amid improved security situation of Metropolis. The Eid day started with congregations in some 3113 Masajid, 675 Imambargah, and Eidhga, where a large number of worshipers offered special prayers for peace and prosperity of Pakistan as well as the Muslim Ummah.
Religious scholars also highlighted the significance of the occasion and philosophy behind celebrating the event in their sermons. They also urged the people to adopt the principles of love, humanity, and kindness as taught by Islam.
Following the Eid prayers, the faithful performed thousands of animal sacrifices across the city, and distributed the meat among relatives, neighbours, and poor people.
The Sindh government had announced a strict code of conduct for collection of animal hides according to which only registered organisations were allowed to collect hides of sacrificial animals.
No major incident was reported during the mega event. However, law enforcement agencies arrested dozens of people involved in 'snatching of hides of sacrificial animals' from different areas of the city since the first day of Eid. Police also rounded up 25 men for allegedly snatching hides of sacrificial animals from Korangi area on Saturday. SSP Korangi, Tanvir Alam Odho said that the action was taken against those who violated the code of conduct for collection of hides.
The SSP said the police seized 1500 animal hides that were in the possession of the arrested men.
The Sindh police and Rangers also ensured better security arrangements across the city. As many as 16,000 security personnel performed duties during the Eid days. Civic authorities particularly Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) also made special arrangements for the disposal of offal and other waste generated during the slaughter of sacrificial animals in all six districts. Some 1.5 million animals were said to be slaughtered this year as against 1.2 million last year. Early removal of waste/ offal was the biggest challenge for the civic authorities. However, they set-up some 50 zones in all six districts for the purpose. Centers were also established in every union council for the quick removal and disposal of animals' offal.
The citizens also enjoyed the uninterrupted electricity as K-Electric fulfilled its promise of not carrying out load shedding during the auspicious occasion of Eid.
The second day of Eid-ul-Azha (on Saturday) was also celebrated with the same religious enthusiasm to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S). Those who could not sacrificed their animals on the first day, slaughtered goats, cows and camels on the 2nd day of the Eid.
On the 3rd day of Eid, people particularly youth arranged Barbeque parties. They also thronged to different recreational places such as parks, Sea view, and Quaid-e-Azam's mausoleum to further enjoy the special movements.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, (IG) Sindh, Ghulam Hyder Jamali praised the efforts of LEAs in maintaining law and order in the city during Eid. In a press statement he asserted that protection of citizens' wealth and life is the fundamental responsibility of police. He also instructed the troops to perform duties with same dedication and professional loyalty.
