Pakistan's Consul General Faisal Niaz Tirmizi met Minnesota University President Eric Kaler to discuss the possibility of establishing and strengthening academic linkages with Pakistani universities. The University of Minnesota, with 62,000 students in five campuses is amongst the top three American Universities in terms of the number of students, especially in the fields of social sciences and engineering, according to a press release on Saturday.
Currently only 27 Pakistani students are studying in the university. Kaler said that university administration would be very happy to welcome more students from Pakistan in the fields of engineering and social sciences. President Kaler also thanked Consul General Tirmizi for his efforts to establish and strengthen linkages between premier educational institutions of Pakistan and US.
When asked which of the Pakistani universities could initiate cooperation with the University of Minnesota, Consul General Tirmizi named, among others, Quid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad, Lahore University of Management Sciences, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and Karachi University. Kaler also invited the Consul General to deliver talks on the subjects of Pakistan, Pakistan-US relations, regional politics of South Asia and Middle East in University's Department of Global and International Studies during the fall semester.
