KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) was committing a serious violation of the constitutional provisions by depriving the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of their due share in daily electricity production. He warned that Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would knock the door of the court against such violation of the constitution besides lodging protests and taking other measures for securing the right of the province.
In his reaction over reduction of 531megawatt electricity in the allocated share of 1782 MW for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, the Chief Minister explained that it was constitutional right of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to get 13.5 percent share of total power production. But, he regretted, PESCO was providing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa much lesser quantity of electricity than its constitutional share. He said that such decline in the share was a gross violation of the constitution on part of PESCO.
He said that diverting the electricity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to other provinces just for pleasing the federal rulers by ignoring the right of our province has become daily routine at PESCO offices. But Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government will not allow PESCO to be unnoticed on such undesirable and unconstitutional attitude and will go to any extend for securing the right of the people of the province, he warned. The chief Minister said that reduction in daily electricity quota resulted in prolonged power load shedding that suffered by the consumers all over the province.
Khattak once again demanded of the federal government to seriously consider the load shedding problem in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and take concrete and sustainable measures at the higher and effective level so that the government and people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should not opt for protests and such other ways to obtain their due rights.
